Anika Nicolaas Ponder leads IKEM’s Climate and Innovation Department, where she and her team explore the socio-economic benefits of the energy transition, and turn those findings into positive communication strategies and effective engagement. With over fifteen years of experience in international research and project management, she specialises in acceptance research, social innovation, and science communication for climate and energy topics.
Anika initiated the ACE approach, Acceptance through Communication and Engagement, an applied research method that fosters societal acceptance of renewable and green energy technologies through tailored communication and participation strategies. Her work helps bridge science and society, supporting a swift, inclusive, and people-powered energy transition.
She has extensive experience in moderation and facilitation, having led participatory formats and high-level dialogues for partners such as the United Nations, the Humboldt Foundation, and the Ethereum Foundation.
As lead manager of numerous international, multi-partner projects, she combines strategic leadership with creative science communication, developing innovative tools such as the IKEM Academy: Energy & Climate, the Infographic Energy Transition Coloring Book, and the Climate Cabaret.
Anika is also deeply committed to gender equality in the energy sector, co-leading initiatives such as the EQT workshop series and the WECU partnership in Ukraine, which empower organisations to develop and implement gender equality strategies.
Anika studied at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and completed a Master’s degree in Economics and Development at the Sorbonne, Paris. Her academic career is complemented by extensive professional experience in international organisations, such as the OSCE Mission in Kosovo and the United Nations, where she worked on topics linked to sustainable development, among others. She speaks four languages.
