Project

Agroecology is committed to combining ecological, social and economic aspects of food production. The focus is on principles such as diversity, circular economy, resource efficiency, resilience, local value creation and social justice. Additionally, the aim of agroecological agriculture is to strengthen ecological processes, promote biodiversity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The European research project AgroPolis is investigating in six living labs how innovative approaches to agroecology can be practically implemented along the food value chain and which political and regulatory framework conditions are required for this.

IKEM coordinates the Living Lab in the Berlin-Brandenburg region and brings together actors from agriculture, food processing, trade, politics and civil society to discuss new sustainable approaches in the food system. A particular focus is on strengthening the link between urban and rural areas and on solidarity-based models (community-supported agriculture). IKEM also analyzes the legal and policy framework for agroecological approaches and develops concrete recommendations for policy and practice.
