CollERS2 is a transnational initiative to research and promote electric road systems for the decarbonization of heavy goods transport.
Electric road systems (ERS) are infrastructures – e.g. overhead lines or inductive charging technologies – with which electric vehicles can be supplied with energy while driving. These systems have the potential to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation, particularly in heavy freight transport.
The CollERS2 project aims to compile previous experience with ERS and develop a strategy for the cross-border introduction of ERS and the creation of a European core network along the TEN-T corridors.
To this end, the project is evaluating results from current field trials in Sweden and Germany as well as from accompanying research. IKEM is responsible for analyzing the legal framework. The collected findings serve as a basis for developing concrete recommendations for action.
As part of the project, IKEM has contributed to two discussion papers. While the first discussion paper focuses on the international expansion of electric road systems, the second discussion paper is dedicated to the regulation required for the successful implementation of ERS technologies.
