ERS Switzerland

Electric road systems (ERS) are infrastructures – e.g. overhead lines or inductive charging technologies – with which electric vehicles can be supplied with energy while driving. These systems have the potential to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation, particularly in heavy freight transport.

The ERS Switzerland project is examining the conditions for the deployment of ERS technologies in Switzerland. To this end, it is assessing the extent to which individual ERS systems can complement the stationary charging infrastructure within the country’s specific geographic, transportation, and energy policy context. Based on this analysis, the project is developing recommendations regarding suitable technologies and their potential areas of application in Switzerland.

As part of the project, IKEM is responsible for conducting a review and evaluation of ERS technologies, examining the relevant regulatory framework, and providing support for the design of a pilot project.
