In GemeinsamWaermer, IKEM is investigating the legal framework and acceptance factors for micro-heating networks as part of the heating transition.

Project

The energy transition in the German building sector should be completed by 2045. By then, the heat supply must be converted to climate-neutral technologies. In addition to decentralized individual solutions and local and district heating networks, micro heating networks are another option for heat supply. These small-scale systems connect up to 15 buildings with a shared heating infrastructure.

In the GemeinsamWaermer project, micro-heating networks in the city of Kassel and the Werra-Meißner district are being tested and further developed in practice. The knowledge gained – for example on technical and economic principles, the legal framework and acceptance issues – is being processed in the project and made available online. The aim is to make it easier for local stakeholders to implement micro-heating networks and support the municipal heating transition.

IKEM is responsible for the accompanying legal research in the project and is developing options for action to reduce legal barriers to micro-heating networks. In addition, IKEM scientists are investigating whether there are reservations about micro-heating networks and how these can be effectively countered by suitable measures to promote acceptance.
