Project

The use of ammonia as a fuel is a strategy for decarbonizing shipping that is being investigated and advanced in the CAMPFIRE research project. The GreenBalticCruising sub-project takes a closer look at this strategy in the context of ferry lines and cruise ships in the Baltic Sea region, and aims to develop recommendations for a legal framework that enables the establishment of ammonia as a maritime fuel. For this purpose, it analyzes the current legal framework for the use of ammonia and the climate governance of selected Baltic Sea countries. In addition, the project examines how the use of sustainable fuels could open up new business models for the North-East region, for example in tourism.

More information about the project can be found on the CAMPFIRE website.
