ProSekko

In ProSekko, IKEM is investigating the legal framework for the flexible and grid-friendly use of heat pumps.

Heat pump

Project

Heat pumps play a central role in the transformation of the heating sector. They enable the electrification of the heat supply and the integration of renewable energies into the heating market. As electricity generation from wind power and photovoltaics fluctuates throughout the day and seasonally, flexibility options will be increasingly needed in the energy system in future.

The ProSekko project is therefore investigating and testing in two field trials how optimized operation of heat pumps in combination with buffer storage can help to better coordinate generation and consumption and increase the stability of the electricity grid.

IKEM is supporting the project from a legal perspective. The focus is particularly on issues relating to energy industry law and data protection law. The aim is to analyze the current legal framework, identify existing obstacles and, on this basis, develop legal policy recommendations in order to legally strengthen the use of flexibility potential in the energy system.
