WiNCO2

In WiNCO2, IKEM is investigating the legal framework for CCU technologies and developing recommendations for the market ramp-up.

Project

The material use of CO₂ (carbon capture and utilization, CCU) faces key challenges. The market for CO₂-based products is still underdeveloped, as many technologies are not yet scaled up, cause high costs and are insufficiently integrated into existing industrial processes. The WiNCO2 project addresses these obstacles as an overarching networking and transfer project by supporting funded research and development projects, increasing their visibility and promoting systematic exchange between research, industry, politics and society.

IKEM is supporting the project with a comprehensive legal analysis of the dynamically developing European and national legal framework for CO₂ capture and use. The aim is to identify regulatory obstacles, carry out a legal assessment of the technologies and solutions developed in the projects and, based on this, formulate recommendations for an innovation-friendly and legally secure market ramp-up of CCU technologies.
