Abstract

The reactivation of train formation and sidings can make an important contribution to strengthening the resilience and increasing the capacity of the rail infrastructure. In view of growing transport policy requirements as part of the mobility transition, its financing is of particular importance. As the term “reactivation” is not uniformly defined in law and in some cases there is no independent public funding element in the statutory regulations, the measures required in each case need to be classified within existing funding elements. This article examines which funding options can be used for reactivation measures within the current funding framework – particularly in the context of the BSWAG.
