Abstract

A decision by the Higher Regional Court of Naumburg on gender-neutral language in judgments raises questions about the tension between legal clarity and equality. This article is therefore dedicated to the legal admissibility of gender-neutral formulations and sheds light on their sociological significance for identity, visibility and power in the institutional context of the judiciary.
