Abstract

The factsheet examines the potential of active mobility for health promotion and social participation. It shows how regular exercise in everyday life, such as walking or cycling, can reduce the risk of chronic diseases and improve quality of life. It also identifies infrastructural and political framework conditions that enable and promote active mobility. Five central fields of action provide orientation for future measures and political strategies.

The paper is based on the exchange at the expert discussion “Active Mobility and Health” of the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) and the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV). Experts from various institutions discussed how active mobility can be strengthened and how the areas of transport and health can be better connected.
