Legal Factors Affecting the Determination of Biomethane Prices

Abstract

The BioM0876 research project aims to identify the fundamentals for the economically viable operation of biomethane CHP plants under the subsidy conditions of the EEG 2023 and to support the further development of the biomethane market. This study complements the study “Legal Framework for the Operation of Biomethane CHP Plants,” published in parallel, and analyzes the legal factors that influence biomethane pricing. To this end, it examines the gas quality requirements (Chapter 2)—including documentation requirements—as well as electricity and gas procurement costs (Chapters 3 and 4) and the costs resulting from emissions trading (Chapter 5) and energy and electricity taxes (Chapter 6).
