Abstract

This article examines the extent to which the B2B sharing platform FAMOUS can serve as a starting point for further development toward an aggregator business model for bidirectional charging. Based on a qualitative comparison using the Business Model Canvas (BMC), the business models for charging infrastructure sharing and bidirectional charging are systematically compared to identify overlaps, potential synergies, and necessary adjustments. The analysis shows that both models exhibit similar structures in several components, particularly with regard to digital platform logic, selected customer relationships, and acquisition and support processes. At the same time, it becomes clear that bidirectional charging represents a standalone energy-sector business model with additional requirements for market integration, control capabilities, and partner networks. FAMOUS therefore has less potential to become an aggregator itself, but rather serves as an enabler and provider of market access for future bidirectional energy services. The results suggest that innovative platform approaches can play an important role in establishing the networks, structures, and expertise required for bidirectional applications.
