Internship – Fundraising

The Institute for Climate Protection, Energy and Mobility (IKEM) is currently seeking an intern to support its fundraising activities for a period of up to 6 months.

IKEM, founded in 2009, is an independent research institute and registered NGO affiliated to the University of Greifswald. Our research examines the interactions between the legal, economic and political frameworks for climate change mitigation, particularly in the context of the energy and mobility transition. Our goal is to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon energy system, facilitate fact-based policymaking, and promote long-term development that is environmentally, economically and socially sustainable.

About this position

As a Fundraising Intern, you’ll gain practical experience in many aspects of non-profit fundraising, from the development of effective messaging to the use of fundraising software. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for you to:

  • Gain hands-on experience in non-profit fundraising
  • Improve written and verbal communication skills
  • Learn how to develop effective messaging for different audiences
  • Learn how to use common fundraising software
  • See what’s involved in running a fundraising campaign
  • Learn more about topics related to climate change, energy and sustainability

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Drafting, translating and/or editing content as needed for email campaigns, monthly newsletters, donor correspondence, etc.
  • Researching fundraising opportunities
  • Assisting in planning for and conducting fundraising campaigns
  • Conducting interviews and other outreach as needed to gather personal stories related to sustainability, climate change, gender equality, and the impact of IKEM programmes
  • Assisting in the creation of social media content
  • Assisting with database management

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Are currently enrolled in a degree programme
  • Are fluent in German and English; native German speakers are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Have excellent research, writing and communication skills
  • Can work independently and as part of a team
  • Are organised, detail-oriented, flexible and self-motivated
  • Can work in a fast-paced environment
  • Are knowledgeable about and/or interested in topics related to sustainability, climate change, gender equality, and energy
  • Are interested in learning more about the non-profit sector
  • (For foreign students) Are enrolled in the German health insurance system and have a German tax ID

Desired qualifications

The following qualifications are a plus:

  • Fundraising experience
  • Experience with fundraising tools (e.g. CiviCRM) and platforms (e.g. betterplace.org, Kickstarter)
  • Basic experience with video-making and -editing software (e.g. Final Cut Pro, iMovie, Adobe Premiere Pro) and design software (e.g. InDesign, Canva)
  • A background in communications, social sciences, public relations, journalism, marketing, non-profit development and/or non-profit management

Compensation

Interns are compensated with a monthly wage of 500 € (based on 40 working hours per week).
