Research Associate in the Sustainability and Innovation Team

The Sustainability & Innovation dapartment is looking to hire a new Research Associate (full-time) starting in autumn 2022.

IKEM’s department Sustainability and Innovation focuses on applied research, consulting and science communication on the topics of sustainability and the energy transition in Germany and the world. The focus is on the acquisition and management of projects funded by German and European funding programs.

We work for a wide range of public agencies and private-sector companies on topics ranging from social innovation and structural transformation to hydrogen applications and sustainability evaluation. And we are a progressive, fun-loving team which values independence, diversity and critical thinking.

Your tasks:

  • Research in the field of sustainability and energy transition with a focus on acceptance and participation in the context of energy transformation.
  • Interdisciplinary cooperation with project partners and within the institute, especially in the field of socio-economic and political issues
  • Implementation of research results with research and practice partners as well as companies
  • Preparation, coordination, moderation and implementation of workshops, research meetings and interviews
  • Cooperation with partners at the international, European, federal, state and municipal level
  • Management, coordination and processing of projects of various sizes
  • Participation in the acquisition of new projects and preparation of offers

Profile

  • Passionate about the climate and the environment
  • A (preferably five-year) degree in social science
  • Ideally relevant professional experience, including in project management
  • Independent and initiative taking
  • Meticulous, focused on quality and detail-oriented
  • Good at working under pressure and problem-solving
  • Proactive, flexible, curious and eager to learn new skills and get to know new topics
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Language skills: German at native speaker level, fluent spoken and written English. Other language skills are an advantage.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, especially Word, PowerPoint and Excel


Ideally, they should also have experience in:

  • Qualitative research methods
  • Applied research related to transitions to sustainability (on topics such as governance, participation, communication and social innovation)
  • Project acquisition
  • Proposal writing
  • Social media
  • Adobe Suite, SharePoint and MS Teams
