Finding ways to decarbonise famously hard-to-abate sectors like heavy industry, heating or mobility is both difficult and – given the current geopolitical situation and climate crisis – more important than ever. The most common solution mooted for this purpose is hydrogen, but pure hydrogen gas is famously difficult to store and transport. Ammonia has long been proposed as a solution to this issue, as it is much more stable and has a higher energy density in situations closer to normal atmospheric and temperature conditions. It is now increasingly being taken seriously as a future game changer.
