The climate crisis is the greatest challenge of the 21st century.
The Institute for Climate Protection, Energy and Mobility (IKEM) is advancing the transition to sustainability in both policy and practice. Its research facilitates the creation of a legal, political and economic framework to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, expand renewable energy and promote sustainable development.
Research areas
Our research and project activities focus on all aspects of a sustainable society, from wind turbines to hydrogen and autonomous shuttles.
Fachbereich
With the research academy, IKEM has created a platform that combines excellent basic research on questions of climate protection in all sectors with scientific exchange and the promotion of young talent.
Fachbereich
We need to ensure that self-driving vehicles help solve existing problems rather than exacerbate them. That is why IKEM is researching innovative mobility concepts in the context of autonomous systems, artificial intelligence and digitalization. We are also developing concepts for sustainable logistics and attractive public transport on rails and roads.
Fachbereich
IKEM investigates innovative approaches to system transformation from an interdisciplinary and international perspective and makes the results accessible with original communication formats. We create visibility and acceptance for sustainability issues and make sure that our research is put into practice.
Fachbereich
Transforming our energy system and increasing the use of renewables is a major undertaking. The IKEM meets this challenge with analyses and concepts for the optimization of the legal framework. That’s how we provide impulses for the expansion of renewable energies, their integration into the various energy sectors and for opportunities for social participation.
