Each COP is a defining moment in the fight for our planet and a sustainable future. Scientific findings including the latest IPCC reports have repeatedly stressed the need for urgent climate action – a key priority for this year’s COP28, hosted in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) between 30 November and 12 December 2023.
Almost eight years after the Paris Agreement, COP 28 will be primarily centered around the implementation and enhancement of the commitments made in previous COP meetings. This encompasses topics such as setting more ambitious emission reduction targets, finalizing the rules for global carbon markets, and securing financial aid for climate-vulnerable nations.

Towards a Climate Neutral, Sustainable Energy Sector in Ukraine
8 December 2023 | 17:00—19:00 | Ukrainian Pavilion, UNFCCC Blue Zone
The post-war reconstruction of Ukraine offers the chance to prioritise sustainability and low-carbon development and to work towards a structurally independent energy system. This can help underpin Ukraine’s seamless integration into the EU energy market and can position the country as a front-runner in the global energy transition.
This panel discussion will bring together researchers from the recently founded Europe-Ukraine Energy Transition Hub (EUETH), representatives of the Ukrainian government and the European Commission, and international experts to explore opportunities and showcase promising policy and legal pathways to rebuild and reshape Ukraine’s energy sector.
